HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) vs Predominant White Universities & Colleges

I must say that this is a hot topic between black students who attend HBCUs and Predominant white colleges. Many say that HBCU are too easy and that they don’t prepare students like a predominately white colleges do. Some say that you are sell out for going to a predominately white school. Now I know many black people who are very successful. They are Doctors, Professors, Owners of companies etc. Out of them they attended either all HBCU or a mixture of HBCU and predominately white colleges. Regardless of the school they attended they still are successful.

Now to the fact that most people who do a lot of talking and assuming have never attended both colleges. They have never been to a HBCU or have they step foot in a predominately white college. So coming from someone who has attended both I feel I have a better mind-set nothing closed minded about it. I attended Auburn University for four years and I loved it. I admit at times I have felt out of place but I was able to get over it. It was hard to make a A in some classes, regardless of the how much you studied or attempted to try to understand. I was a Engineer major and came in loving it but as I got into my major classes realized it wasn’t interesting anymore. I found myself not really caring about any of the classes I took because they were not interesting. So I switched to Biology my original love, I was accepted into Auburn & UAB (Biology) right out of high school. Things happened were I had no were to live and had to move back to Birmingham. So I talked to one of my doctors and he told me I should try a HBCU and I remember his wife who is also the nurse told me don’t go off of say so. So, I turned in a application to Miles College. I honestly think before I step foot on the campus I had my own close minded views of how things worked and would go. I will say that they were so wrong. I realized that classes were smaller and people were a little more friendly. Teachers knew my name and made a effect to be involved in getting to know each student. I made A’s, B’s, C’s and a few D’s at Auburn. I will admit in the classes I did bad in, after I got confused I stop going and caring enough to really get help. So I would take a D for doing basically mediocre work. At Miles the fact that if I didn’t fully understand something and the teacher knew meant they took time to make me understand it. I can say that smaller is better FOR ME. Bigger might be better for others but smaller works for me. I love Miles and feel like I can see myself really moving in a positive direction with the school. I just feel if you have never attended both you shouldn’t speak on it. You only have one view and that is the view you see it from not from both! Good Day, God Bless.

Fashion for the not so Skinny, size 16 & up!!!!

I am not the smallest thing in the room and never have been. I was blessed with full hips and thighs! Funny thing is my jeans have to be in plus size but my tops can be in regular sizes. For the longest I thought bigger ment I had to wear these horrible “Big Girl” clothes! I slowly realized that I was looking in all the wrong places. I also have to keep that GOLDEN RULE my mom told me also too, JUST BECAUSE IT’S IN YOUR SIZE DOES NOT MEAN YOU NEED TO WEAR IT!

SVOBODA jeans! I just ran across this site the jeans are expensive but I love how they look, I hate plus size jeans with that huge pouch in the front!!!

Cute !!!★★☆ 4/5 stars (They lost the last star for the price)

Next, is Forever 21+ there prices are cheaper yet that means you will be buying more and keeping them for less time!★☆ 4/5 stars (Cheapness means they wear more easy)

Maurices is a nice place. They have stores online and all over. I like their clothes and when I do buy clothes from them they last, and seem of good quality! They have cute dresses and tops that is all I buy from their but they do have some jeans as well. Their jeans are nice you just have to get the right fit. I find that bell bottoms fit me better because of my full hips and thighs. Skinny legs are cute but don’t really fit my body type.

★ 5/5 stars (As far as tops and dresses)

Wetseal, cute clothes but I don’t shop here as much as I did in high school. I realized shopping here you are bound to see someone else with the same clothes on. They have a plus size section but it is nice but I think they should expand more and to get more plus size wearers.

 ★☆☆ 3/5 stars

Cacique is a nice place. They have nice panties and bras. I need for more people to shop here because a lot of bigger females wear too little underwear a lot. Victoria Secret is so cute but it does not fit a good bit of us so you should not go in there and grab the biggest size underwear they sell and know it does not fit and still put it on. Also they sell Spanx which a lot more females should use too. If you have any type of gut you should use these. They make you clothes look very neat. ★ 5/5 stars

I shop a lot of other places and I am not a label type person, I shop by what is cute.

  • JCpenny’s
  • Belk
  • Any thing that is cute to me!

Guys in 2012, and what happen to being a stand up guy?

I remember coming up I thought it would be so easy to have a guy like my dad. Whom is responsible, a provider, a AWESOME father, a great husband to my mom and a all around good person and man. I have found that guys like that don’t exist in 2012. You have guys that are 20 something that are married but still will cheat. You have guys that will lie and try to set you up to look like a bad person, you have guys that will use you until you have nothing else to give and lastly the crazy ones, the ones that you have to put a restraining order on.

I find that guys in 2012 lack some very real charateristics of a man

  • They want to be chased (Sorry as bad as you want to be a real women should not have to chase you at ALL!)
  • They nag and complain (Steve Harvey even said that if a guy nags too much they are on the wrong team, maybe they are not of male gender.

Here is what I find women in 2012 do that makes the guys think it’s okay, they

  • Let them get away with things (He can cheat on you over, over and over again but guess what your still there. You love your boo and he know where home is right???? No if a guys repeatedly cheats on you I don’t think his heart is with you, it’s in the streets and with whatever female is down that night.)
  • We make things too easy (Were always available and down to do anything. Make them work.)
  • We often settle instead of waiting (We will talk to the no good guy because we feel we don’t want to be alone. We settle and then have the chance to miss the right guy)
  • Stop giving it up and stop sleeping with people just because you need some sex.

I see that this day in age it’s different because of both parties, I guess no one is to really blame but the cycle has to stop somewhere.

Natural (My take on the hair thing)

Yes I am one of the few who do believe that natural is right, for years I got perms sat at the beauty shop every four Saturdays and wasted hours of my life getting my hair done only to be back in 4 weeks. Until I decided to change it up and switch to natural. My decision was based off of trying something different and making me over it was a part of a life cleanse. I dropped people and the I changed my life for the better and I stopped getting perms and just let my hair grow out natural. I remember those first few months were like the worst. I always had someone saying something negative and how my hair should be straight. I would have to defend myself because people felt like I didn’t meet the idea image of what they assumed my hair should be. Like any hairstyle it’s a awkwardness at first especially if your not use to rocking a short hairstyle and it takes trial and error. As the months passed people realized this was not just another hairstyle for me this was permanent. I proudly rock my hair and I love it. I know I dyed it blonde which is against some peoples idea of natural but I always wanted to dye my hair that color I thought it fit my skin tone. I love my hair and the experience I have had with growing it so far! I don’t knock females who get perms, I dislike the ones who love to point out how bad people look with them or how it doesn’t fit them. As a natural I just wish people could have a open mind. Don’t just try to go natural for a three months and say it wasn’t for you. Do it for some years and see were you hair can truly be. Healthy strong and thick. You won’t be 45 with bald spots forming.

I absolutely love the video I found on www.worldstarhiphop.com on the natural hair by @KlaEnigma and it is what really wanted to make me post this! Only positively here nothing negative.
